Google recently announced they are to give small and medium sized business (SMB) customers worldwide $340 million in ad credits, to be used towards future ad spend, until the end of 2020 across Google Ads platforms.
This is aimed at helping SMBs during these challenging times to stay in touch with customers, aid declining revenue and support their employees. With SMBs accounting for 90% of all businesses, Google has recognised the pressure that Covid-19 has put these businesses under and want to support them to engage with their customers.
If you’ve spent with a Google Ads account in ten out of twelve months of 2019, and in January and/or February of 2020 you’ll be eligible whether you advertised directly with Google, or through a third-party partner.
Like the UK Government grants, there is no application process. When Google launch ad credits in the UK, if you are eligible the ad credits are automatically applied to your Google Ads accounts and you’ll receive a notification email to the primary account contact.
Google have made it clear that there will be no exceptions and these ad credits cannot be transferred, split or refunded.
If you are eligible, the amount of ad credit will be based on your past Google Ads spend, the billing address of your country, and currency of the Google Ads account. It will be received in one credit up to a maximum $1,000 USD or equivalent currency. Google customers with multiple accounts will only receive one ad credit.
Google will notify you when your ad credit has been applied on the “Promotions” page of your Google Ads account. You can find this by clicking the tools icon at the top of the page, then select “Billing” and “Promotions”.
If you use “Manager Accounts”, Google ad credits for any eligible customers will be on the “Notifications” page in your Manager Account. Admins of Manager Accounts for eligible client accounts will also receive an email after the credits are automatically applied.
These ad credits can be used across the Google Advertising channels including Search, Display, and YouTube as well as all campaign types. It can only be used for future Google Ads spend and not to pay for any ads spend prior to receiving the ad credit.
Don’t worry if you’re not ready to use these ad credits immediately, you have until 31 December 2020 to spend them. At that point they will expire and removed from your Google Ads account.
